Tinubu appoints a 39-year-old professor as the new JAMB secretary, replacing Ishaq Oloyede

president Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Professor Segun Ain as the new Secretary of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), effectively setting the stage for him to take over from Professor Ishaq Oloyede when his tenure ends on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced by the Presidency
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the appointment is aimed at strengthening the Nigerian education sector through innovation, digital reform and improved examination systems.
Profile of the new JAMB Registrar
Professor Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with extensive experience in digital infrastructure, national examination systems and institutional reforms.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer systems engineering from the University of Kent, a master’s degree in internet computing and network security, and a doctorate in digital signal processing from Loughborough University in the UK.
He also completed the Senior Management Program at the Lagos Business School.
Professional experience and contributions
The presidency noted that Aina has more than 15 years of experience in advising federal and state governments on digital transformation, system design and institutional reforms.
He has also worked as a consultant to examination bodies such as the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), where he contributed to the development of ICT systems and examination integrity.
Professional memberships
Professor Aina is a member of several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
Statement of the Presidency
The Presidency expressed confidence in the new mandate, stating:
“Professor Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and institutional reform of the public sector.”
“He holds a BSc in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University, UK. He also completed the Senior Management Program at Lagos Business School,” the statement read.
“He is also a member of professional bodies including the Engineering Regulation Council of Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.”
The president’s expectation
President Tinubu also expressed optimism that the new JAMB secretary will build on the achievements of the outgoing Professor Ishaq Oloyede-led administration.
“President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to use his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the work of the Board, to elevate the critical educational organization beyond the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor,“, the press release added.
