“Anyone who refuses to open a shop on Monday will pay a fine of ₦20 million” – warns Soludo traders

Governor of Anambra State Charles Soludo warned shopkeepers against Monday’s stay-at-home order, saying any shop sealed by the government for refusing to open would attract a heavy fine.

According to him, traders who do not open their shops on Mondays risk having their branches sealed, and those who try to unseal them illegally stores would face an additional penalty.

Speaking about the enforcement, Soludo said:

“Any trader who refuses to open their shop on Monday and it is sealed will pay £20 million. If you unseal it yourself, you will pay another £20 million.”

Soludo claimed that the state government is determined to end the practice of “sitting at home”, insisting that residents must go about their legitimate business without fear or intimidation.

He started sitting at home on Mondays Indigenous people of Biafra leaders as an act of peaceful civil protest, described as a symbolic expression of solidarity with their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The development continued to fuel chatter online as residents and traders reacted to the government’s tough stance on Monday’s stay-at-home order.
