Difficulties: “If you lost weight, I also lost some weight”

president Bola Ahmed Tinubu acknowledged the difficulties caused by his administration’s economic reforms, stating that he personally felt the impact of the policy.

Tinubu said this on Sunday while accepting the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 election.

Tinubu talks about economic reforms

Addressing party leaders and supporters at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Center at Abujathe president said the reforms introduced by his administration are necessary despite the hardships Nigerians are facing.

According to him, the process of rebuilding the country was painful both for the citizens and for himself.

He said: “I know what it takes to reform this nation we met in tatters. If you lost your sleep, I lost it too. If you’ve lost weight, I’ve lost some weight too.”

“I was looking for this job,” says Tinubu

Tinubu stated that he remains committed to carrying out the duties of leadership as he voluntarily sought the position.

He added: “But I always remembered one thing: In 2022, I was looking for this job. You all supported me and I understood. So I have to do it.”

He accepts the APC presidential ticket

The president also formally accepted the presidential nomination of the APC for the 2027 election, expressing gratitude to members of the party.

He said: “It is with deep humility and gratitude that I accept the nomination of our great party, APC, to be your presidential candidate again in the 2027 election.”

Tinubu reacts to the primary exercise

Tinubu disclosed that he followed the primary election process after casting his vote in Lagos, saying he was inspired by the turnout of supporters across the country.

According to him, the peaceful conduct of the exercise showed progress in Nigeria’s democratic process.

he said: “I was glued to the television after the vote. I saw huge crowds in Kano and Kaduna, a city boy walking the streets of Calabar.”

APC primary results

Tinubu reportedly secured 10,999,162 votes in the APC direct primaries held across the country, defeating his opponent, Stanley Osif, who polled 16,503 votes.
