“If the mother…” — The lady rejects the offer after the man’s mother answered the question

A Nigerian man caused reactions on social media after he told how the woman allegedly refused the marriage proposal due to the behavior of the groom’s mother at the time of the engagement.

The story, shared on Xu, describes how what was supposed to be a romantic surprise proposal after a church Bible study reportedly ended awkwardly when the man’s mother interrupted before the lady could respond.

According to the narrator, the man carefully planned the proposal and presented the ring in front of the other members of the church after the joint gathering.

He said everything seemed to be going smoothly until the groom-to-be popped the big question to the woman.

However, before the lady could answer, the man’s mother allegedly stepped in and answered on her behalf.

User X wrote: “A woman in my church refused a proposal because the man’s mother answered the question before she could speak.”

He further explained that the woman loudly declared that the proposal was accepted, causing the people nearby to immediately start clapping.

According to the story, the mother allegedly picked up the engagement ring first and even tried to help the lady wear it herself.

The unexpected action reportedly left the woman uncomfortable and upset.

The narrator added: “She said that’s when fear entered her body.”

After the incident, the narrator said that he later asked the woman why she ended up rejecting the proposal despite the public celebration.

In response, the lady reportedly raised concerns about what she believed could become excessive interference from the man’s mother after the wedding.
