“Face the weight of the law” – Bayo Onanuga trashes VDM over alleged fake Tinubu audio

  • Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga has condemned the circulation of an alleged fake audio recording linked to President Bola Tinubu, accusing social media personality VDM of spreading misinformation online.
  • The controversy erupted after viral claims suggested that Tinubu had asked Peter Obi to step down for him in a leaked voicemail, sparking backlash on social media platforms.

Aide to the President, Bayo Onanuga, has reacted strongly to the circulation of an alleged audio recording linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing social media critic VeryDarkMan of spreading false information online.

The controversy started after an X user identified as Aneex questioned the authenticity of a viral audio recording allegedly linked to President Tinubu. User wrote:

“How do you really convince someone who has already made up his mind and believes in his own mind that this is actually Asiwaju’s voice? What kind of cheap propaganda is this?

VDM knows that the Ibos are very emotional people and that’s why he enjoys riding on their emotions.”

The post was referring to a popular voice message which allegedly claimed that President Tinubu had asked former Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to step down for him during the 2023 election season.

Reacting to the development, Bayo Onanuga again issued a statement and called for legal consequences against VDM. According to him:

“This VDM should face the weight of the law for being the transmitter and spreader of President Tinubu’s fake sound. This is a clear case of outrageous misuse of the social media platform.”

The alleged audio has continued to generate mixed reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating its authenticity and the wider implications of disinformation on digital platforms.
