Rufai Oseni questions the credibility of the APC primaries

Journalist Rufai Oseni reacted critically to the recently concluded Armored personnel carrier primary elections, describing the exercise as more of a “sketch” than a truly democratic process.

Speaking during the morning programme, Rufai questioned the credibility of the figures emerging from the primaries, particularly the claims of the number of votes allegedly secured by President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, presenting such huge numbers in party primaries could create a dangerous narrative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He argued that if the ruling party claims that the president can secure more than 11 million votes during the internal primaries, this could later be used as justification for similarly high numbers in the general election.

Rufai warned that such narratives could raise concerns about electoral credibility and public confidence in future elections if not properly addressed.

His words in part…

“Do you think this just concluded APC primary is actually an election? It’s a joke. I want to challenge this narrative here, this just concluded APC primary should never be an excuse for what will happen in the 2027 election, because if they say now that President Tinubu can get 11 million votes in the primary, that means he can’t get anything less than that during the main election. It’s a bad story and an excuse for rigging.”
