“A grown man has no business eating bread,” says Man

AND man has sparked widespread debate on social media after warning that regular consumption of bread can pose serious health risks for men and women.

The debate about nutrition is causing reactions on the Internet

The man, whose comments became popular in online wellness discussions on Monday, claimed that modern wheat no longer contains the natural nutritional value it once had genetic modifications introduced decades ago.

According to him, the processing and modification of wheat since the 1960s has allegedly stripped the grain of healthy nutrients while introducing harmful components linked to long-term health problems.

His comments drew mixed reactions, with some users agreeing that excessive intake of processed food is contributing to the rise in obesity and diabetes, while others argued that bread remains the main source of affordable nutrition for millions of Nigerians.

“I went back to the history of what happened to wheat in the 1960s when wheat was genetically modified. They took out everything that made wheat healthy and put in things that made it dangerous for human consumption,” the man said.

Experts call for balanced eating habits

Health experts, however, repeatedly advise moderation rather than complete avoidance of staple foods.

Nutritionists say that whole wheat bread and a balanced diet remain important sources of fiber and energy when consumed responsibly with fruits and vegetables.

This is the time to stop eating bread if you want to live long“, the man added, encouraging people to embrace healthier local alternatives.

Concerns about processed foods are not new. In 2023, several nutrition campaigns across Nigeria encouraged citizens to reduce their consumption of sugar and ultra-processed foods amid the rise of non-communicable diseases across the country.
