“Do your homework” – PIDOM Nigeria tells Bayo Onanuga to check the facts before threatening VDM

A new controversy has erupted online after user X PIDOMNIGERIA, known as @UNOFFICIALFACT, accused Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga of overreacting to a viral video featuring social commentator VeryDarkMan and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The debate started after Bayo Onanuga alleged that VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM, shared a fake audio recording of President Tinubu and stated that the activist should face legal consequences.

According to Bayou Onanuga:

“VDM must face the weight of the law for spreading the false sound of Pres. Tinubu”

However, PIDOMNIGERIA rejected the allegations, claiming that one of the circulating videos was manipulated with AI-generated audio, while the other version was the original clip.

In the post, PIDOMNIGERIA wrote:

“Left video fake. Right video original.

The left video has been corrected with AI generated audio of President Tinubu.

The real video is the original video from VDM where he called out Tinubu’s promise that he will not be re-elected for a second term, if he does not provide constant electricity for Nigerians, in his first 4 years.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga @aonanuga1956, don’t rush to make threats. You’re the presidential spokesperson, do your homework to check.”

The statement quickly sparked widespread reactions online, with many users sharing differing opinions on misinformation, government communications and the role of social media.

Reacting to the controversy, Michael Micah🪙 wrote:
