FG declares Wednesday and Thursday as national holidays for the celebration of Eid-el Kabir

The federal government has declared Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, 2026 as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-el Kabir celebrating.

dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, made the statement on behalf of the government in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, yesterday in Abuja.

The minister stated that “The declaration affirms the deep respect of the federal government for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims who join the global Islamic community in commemorating the holy event.”

Conveying the government’s hearty congratulations to the Muslim faithful at home and abroad, Dr. Tunji-Ojo noted that the festival has deep spiritual significance based on sacrifice, obedience and compassion.

The minister also asked citizens to use the two-day holiday for prayer and serious meditation, seeking divine guidance as the country strives for long-term peace, security and economic development.

He further said that the Administration wishes all Muslims a peaceful and joyful celebration in the spirit of common humanity, brotherhood and nationalism.
