My dad is one of the reasons why Nigeria has democracy – Kiddwaya

Reality TV personality Kiddway shared personal thoughts on his father’s influence and his family’s alleged role in Nigeria political history.
Speaking in an interview, he described Kiddway Banana Island in Lagos as one of the most expensive and luxurious real estate locations in Africa, adding that it was only after a media interview that he learned of parts of his father’s involvement in her confession.

He also spoke about his father’s modest nature, noting that he does not publicly brag about his successes, but is open when someone asks him about them.
Kiddwaya went on to recount a story he said he learned recently, claiming that his father had close ties to the military leadership during Nigeria’s military rule period.
According to him, after the death of the former head of state, Sani Abacha, a close associate of his father allegedly assumed leadership and later sought his advice on the country’s transition to civilian rule.
He claimed that his father advised him to return Nigeria to democratic governance, allowing citizens to vote for their leaders, a development he believes contributed to the country’s current democratic system.
“Banana Island is the most expensive, luxurious piece of land in Africa. It’s quite small, on an island in Lagos, I didn’t know he discovered it until he made that statement on the BBC. My dad is very much like that. He doesn’t blow his own trumpet. When you ask him, he’ll tell you.
And I have another fascinating story that I just found out. He didn’t tell anyone. I didn’t know that my dad was one of the reasons why Nigeria had democracy. He was very close to the military when we had military rule.
When Sani Abacha died, Dad’s close friend was second in command, so his friend became president. So he came to the house, I wasn’t born then, he came to the house and said look, Terry, I’m the president now, I really don’t know what to do, what to do. And he said, give it to democracy. For example, make a democracy so people can vote.
When he told me that, I said, Dad, you should tell people that. He is one of the reasons why Nigeria has a democracy…” he said.
