Popular Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has faced backlash on social media following her comments on the recent kidnapping incident at a school in Oyo State.

The singer shared a video expressing her concern over the disturbing attack, which allegedly involved force kidnapping schoolchildren.

A teacher lost his life during the incident, while videos from the scene circulated online and sparked widespread reactions.

“I heard about the incident late,” says Tiwa Savage

In the video, Tiwa Savage explained that she only became aware of the incident after seeing a post posted by fellow singer Spyro.

According to her, she was surprised that the matter did not get enough attention on the Internet despite its seriousness.

Tiwa Savage further revealed that while trying to better understand the situation, she came across a post by media personality KieKie, who allegedly mentioned that the incident happened almost two weeks earlier.

“The kidnapping that happened in Oyo state, just yesterday Spyro was talking about it, I heard about it. I tried to reach some people to know the background of the story because it wasn’t trending. I saw KieKie’s post and she said it was almost two weeks ago,” she said.

Her reaction, however, quickly drew mixed reactions on microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).

Fans are dragging Tiwa Savage over the comments

Many users criticized Tiwa Savage for allegedly speaking out about the incident too late.

Some accused the singer of not paying enough attention to important national issues.

Others went further labeling her “pro-Tinubu”, arguing that some celebrities only react when public pressure becomes intense.

Several social media users also mocked her emotional tone in the video, with some sarcastically suggesting that she deserved film awards for her reaction.
