Suspect connected to the death of a University student himObowo, Wendy Achumba, reportedly confessed in a viral video that has sparked widespread reactions online.
The suspect, identified as Onyema Okonkwo, was reportedly arrested by youths from Umuadara, Umulogho in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State following investigation into the incident.
Arrest by youth from the community
According to community sources, the arrest was made following growing suspicion and rising tensions in the area.
The operation was allegedly led by a youth leader, Chidiebere Iweajunwa, who coordinated the efforts that led to the arrest of the suspect.
Viral video
In a video that has since gone viral on social networks, the suspect he allegedly narrated how the incident occurred, claiming that he visited the victim’s apartment with another person identified as Emmanuel.
he said: “Around 19:00, me and my friend Emmanuel, who is a phone charger, arrived at her home. We noticed that no one was there, we went straight from her room and asked her for sex, but she refused. When we started forcing her, she hurt my face with her nails. Later we overpowered her, and raped her. I had sex with her twice while my friend had sex with her three times, later I attacked her with a wooden object while my friend also stabbed her…”
The video has sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians demanding justice for the deceased student.
The student was allegedly alone
A community source also revealed that the deceased student was living alone at the time of the incident, as her roommates were away for a nursing program.
The source explained: “She was the only one in the house. The owner of the house lives in America. There were three students in the house. But two left because of her experience as a carer, leaving only her in the complex.”
