A Nigerian woman has taken to social media platform X to share a deeply disturbing and confusing family situation that left her emotionally shaken after the events involving her mother and her husband’s younger brother during the postpartum stay.
The woman explained that she had recently given birth and her mother had moved into her home to help with traditional post-natal care, known as omugwo.
What should have been a period of support and recovery, however, quickly turned into a source of shock and family tension.
A shocking discovery in the house
According to her post, the 32-year-old younger brother of her husband and her 57-year-old mother, who stayed with her for about three weeks, took part in the incident.
She wrote:
“I gave birth last month and my mother came with me for omugwo. She left her home to help take care of me and the baby. My father passed away more than 6 years ago and we are five children, three girls and two boys. I am the second child.
My mother has been with us for about three weeks now and something happened that shocked, embarrassed and confused me. My husband’s younger brother, who is 32 years old, was caught sleeping with my mother, who is 57 years old.
Mom, I don’t even know how to process this. I feel so embarrassed and disappointed. I keep wondering how my husband views me and my family now. The worst part is that his brother says that they are both grown up and can do whatever they want.
I was so angry that I told my mother to start packing her things because I don’t want her to stay in my house anymore. Right now I don’t know how to explain this situation to my siblings or if I should even tell them.
I feel embarrassed, and completely confused. What would you do if you were me? How do I deal with this, how does my husband see my family now??”
