You can’t be rich if you’re a ‘sugar baby’ — Media personality Raya

Media personality Raya sparked a debate online after sharing her views on the difference between living comfortably with the support of another person and building a long-term financial security personal effort.

Speaking of financial independence, Raye claimed that while a “sugar baby” may provide her with access to luxury and comfort, it rarely leads to true wealth or long-term stability.

According to her, many women in such arrangements can enjoy an expensive lifestyle, including paid rent, designer items, holidays and what is commonly described as the “soft life”, but she stressed that these privileges are not the same as ownership or financial freedom.

“Just being a cute baby can make you a lot of money, but it will almost never make you rich,” she said.

She explained that a lifestyle often depends entirely on the willingness of another person to continue providing financial support, making it uncertain and temporary.

“The problem with access is the day the person funding your life gets tired, finds someone new, or just decides they’re done, your whole life will disappear overnight,” she added.

Raye compared that reality to women who focus on developing a career or building a business, noting that the process may seem slower and less glamorous at first, but it creates something more sustainable.

According to her, women who build their own careers and businesses create ownership and stability that cannot be easily taken away from them.

“Because when a career woman makes money, it doesn’t come from a man’s mood. It comes from her self-worth. No one can wake up one day and cut off her income. That’s the difference,” she said.

Her comments have since drawn mixed reactions on social media, with some praising her message of independence and self-respect, while others argued that financial relationships can also be strategic and beneficial if managed wisely.
