“It started with rejection” – A lady who graduated from high school at UI, shares her problems

Bride Nigerian lady, Mabel Aruwajoye, shared her inspiring academic journey after graduating from the University of Ibadan as a licensed medical laboratory scientist.
Mabel recounted how she overcame enrollment issues, health challenges and financial difficulties before finally graduating with honors in her professional exams.
Her story, which was shared on LinkedIn, caught the attention of many social media users who congratulated her on her resilience and determination.
Graduated from high school at 12
According to Mabel, she graduated from high school in 2018 at the age of 12 and became the best graduate in her group.
However, despite meeting the required entry threshold, she was unable to immediately secure admission to the university.
Speaking about the experience, she said:
“From a 12-year-old BGS in high school to a licensed medical laboratory scientist.
It started with rejection. Fresh out of high school in 2018, watched colleagues get admission while I didn’t, despite passing the exam. My parents refused to let me stay at home, it was an A level.
Cambridge A Levels at Educonsult was a rough start but my guardian angel Mr Peters Abiodun redirected me to EAC where I finished with A*AB 2020. I was sure my path was set, until God completely redirected it. In 2021, I was admitted to the University of Ibadan, First and Best, to study Biomedical Laboratory Science through direct entry (200L).
The journey was anything but smooth. Second semester 200L shook my confidence. The 300L clinical year at UCH demanded everything I had. 400L brought the fear of malaria days before my first professional exam. I passed with flying colors anyway. I stuck with it and kept going.
500L led me to chemical pathology, where I found my support. My toxicology research last semester, manually running 3 parameters on 60 samples in 2 days, fully tested my limits. The financial strain was real, but my family wouldn’t let me fall. And when everything came together, I passed the final professional exam with honors.
Two professional exams. Two differences. 2:1 degree. And a license.
Eight years out of high school I am a 21 year old licensed Medical Laboratory Scientist First and Best.
NOW IS MLSct. Aruwajoye Mabel commends B.MLS Chemical Pathology (Ibadan), AMLSCN.
To God, my parents, siblings, supervisor, friends, roommate and professional colleagues, thank you for making this possible. It can only be GOD.”
