The ruling senator Congress of All Progressives caused numerous reactions after his emotional address to the Senate due to the worsening economic and security situation in Nigeria.
The lawmaker raises the alarm about insecurity and growing poverty
The lawmaker, identified as Senator Smart, reportedly became emotional while speaking during the Senate session, where he called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and fellow lawmakers to urgently address the mounting hardships facing Nigerians.
According to him, citizens across the country are now living in fear due to insecurity, hunger and increasing poverty.
“President Tinubu should realize that we, the loyal supporters of the APC, can no longer remain silent. Our security system has collapsed and every part of this country now lives in fear and uncertainty,” he said.
“If we cannot save this nation, then the National Assembly should be extinguished. There is hunger everywhere, poverty is increasing, and Nigerians are suffering daily,“, the senator added emotionally.
The comments reflect growing concerns across the country
The remarks have since sparked intense debate online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the rising cost of living, insecurity and economic difficulties.
Since the end of fuel subsidies in 2023, citizens and opposition representatives have repeatedly criticized the economic challenges affecting households and businesses across the country.
Several lawmakers and governors also called for stronger measures to combat inflation, food shortages and violent attacks in various parts of the country.
Many social media users described the senator’s comments as a reflection of public frustration, while others called on the government to introduce more effective relief measures for struggling Nigerians.
