“What we found out about the guy who borrowed money from almost everyone in our area” — reveals Lady

A social media post describing how a man tricked neighbors and friends into donating money for the fake emergency medical service caused fierce reactions on the Internet.
The story, shared by a woman on Xu, details how residents in her area allegedly gave different amounts after the young man claimed his mother needed emergency surgery at the hospital.
According to her, many people sympathized with the emotional appeal and readily sent financial support. Some reportedly contributed as little as £2,000, while others gave as much as £50,000.
She added that one woman in their estate even withdrew money from her savings because she believed the situation was genuine.
The lady wrote: “A guy from my area borrowed money from almost everyone last year. He claimed that his mother was in the hospital and needed an emergency operation.
People pitched in, some sending £2,000, others £50,000. One woman in our complex even withdrew money from her savings because she felt sorry for it. Everyone was praying for his ‘mom’.”
However, the situation reportedly changed dramatically two weeks later after videos of the birthday celebration surfaced online.
According to the post, the birthday party reportedly took place in Lekki and included expensive drinks, loud music, a hotel stay and a brand new iPhone.
The revelation reportedly shocked many residents who made financial contributions out of sympathy.
She continued: “Two weeks later, someone posted a video of his birthday party in Lekki. Champagne, new iPhone, hotel room, loud music. The worst part?
His mother was perfectly healthy. Afterwards I saw her outside buying tomatoes as if nothing had happened.”
The lady further claimed that when some co-workers confronted the man about the alleged fraud, he showed no remorse.
Instead, she said he laughed off the allegations and accused people of being too trusting.
“When people confronted him, he laughed and said, ‘If you people were wise, you wouldn’t believe every sad story on the Internet.'”
The incident has since sparked widespread debate on social media, with many users expressing anger at the alleged manipulation of human emotions for financial gain.
Some users argued that economic hardship had driven many people to desperate behaviour, while others insisted that taking advantage of compassion, particularly by lying about parents’ health, crossed a serious moral line.
Reacting to the situation, the lady wondered how someone could comfortably invent such a story in which their own mother was involved.
“Even today, some people defend it because “torment is hard”. Maybe I’m being overly emotional, but I feel that when someone can comfortably lie about their own mother for money, nothing is off limits. Would you forgive someone like that?”
