A Nigerian man sparked emotional conversations online after recounting a touching encounter with a woman on a flight from Abuja to Lagos, where she opened up about her problems marriage and emotional struggles within her religious community.
A man who shared the experience on Xu, formerly known as Twitter, said the woman sat next to him during the flight and wept quietly throughout the journey.
According to him, her tears were not loud or dramatic, but those that revealed deep emotional pain.
He explained that after a while the woman apologized for crying and revealed that she had recently discovered that her husband had been cheating on her with someone from their church.
The discovery reportedly led to a long and emotional conversation between both passengers during the flight.
While talking to him, the woman asked a difficult question about faith, marriage and emotional endurance among Christians.
“Do you think Christians stay in bad marriages too long because they are afraid of disappointing God?” she asked.
The man admitted that he didn’t answer right away because the question was deep in his mind.
The woman further expressed her frustration with the advice she continued to receive from people around her.
“Everyone tells me to pray harder, to forgive faster, to fight for my home… but no one asks me if I’m surviving emotionally,” she said.
According to the man, those words remained in his memory long after the conversation ended.
He noticed that many people often celebrate a sacrifice without considering the emotional burden carried by the person making those sacrifices.
He added that emotional pain can become even more confusing within religious communities, where individuals are sometimes expected to endure hardship quietly while appearing spiritually strong.
