“I will not include you in my application” — The husband denies the wife the opportunity to travel due to a dispute over the last name

AND woman was left emotional after her husband refused to include her in his application for international travel after a long-running disagreement over changing his surname after marriage.
A church member shares a story about marital discord
The story was shared on social media by a woman, who claimed the incident involved a couple at her church.
According to her account, the wife allegedly refused to accept her husband’s last name or arrange a new international passport with his family name for two years despite the man’s repeated requests.
It is said that the husband eventually stopped discussing the matter until a recent foreign opportunity arose through his workplace.
“The man kept begging her to process a new international passport with his name on it, but she refused and insisted she wanted to continue using her father’s name“, said the lady.
“Eventually the man got tired and stopped talking about it. But when an international opportunity arose at his workplace and he was allowed to travel with his wife, the lady suddenly started begging him to change his surname quickly.” she added.
Social media users shared their opinions about the husband’s reaction
According to the narrator, the husband refused to include his wife in the application process, insisting that he no longer cares about the last name issue.
The development prompted the woman to seek intervention from their church pastor, who has now been asked to mediate between the two parties.
“The man’s response now is, ‘I don’t care again. I will not include you in my application.’ Now the woman was crying and telling the Pastor to help her beg him,” said the lady.
The story has since sparked fierce reactions online, with Nigerians debating whether changing surnames after marriage should remain compulsory.
Similar conversations were trending in 2024 after several women publicly defended keeping their maiden names for professional and personal identity reasons.
